About the Department
The department of Kannada, which is the first department of Manjeshwar Govinda Pai Memorial Government College, was started in the year 1991. The Government sanctioned degree course in that year.
Now the department is offering three year B.A Kannada degree course with common course, core course and Complimentary course. Women studies, Media studies, Cultural history of Karnataka and Research methodology are the complimentary course in I year and II year Ancient literature, Indian poetic, Criticism, Translation, linguistic science, Inscriptions and paleography are in III year. The eligibility condition for the admission to yhis course is a pass in +2 or equivalent examination with Kannada as one of the subject or language.

Effective From 2024 Onwards
Department conducted a national seminars, and organized seminars, programs with the assistance of different institutions. Students of this department have won literary prizes in the University level competitions. Cultural activities and literary activities in this department have produced talented students. Under the patronage of the department Gilivindu’ – a forum for the student’s cultural and literary activities is active since 1994, Kannada Chaithra’ a magazine of the `Gilivindu’ is publisihing the articles, stories, poems of our students.
