History of the College!
- Named after the legendary Kannada literary luminary Rashtrakavi Manjeshwar Govinda Pai (1883-1963), the Government College, Manjeshwar was envisioned to transform the Social, Cultural and Educational landscape of Northern Malabar region of Kerala.
- Govinda Pai had enriched Kannada literature and poetry by his creative and scholastic works and was conferred the title of Rashtrakavi by the erstwhile Government of Madras along with Mahakavi Vallathol.
- He was an erudite scholar, national poet, dramatist, polyglot, researcher, historian, social reformer, philosopher, humanist, secularist and a multi faceted genius. He was a living model for love, compassion, universal brotherhood and religious harmony.
- Reverberating these ideals of the pioneer of Modern Kannada Literature, the institution was formally inaugurated on 22nd September 1980 by Sri E. K. Nayanar, the Chief Minister of Kerala.
- Other notable dignitaries who were also present on the auspicious the occasion included Sri R.Gundu Rao, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri Baby John, Minister of Education, Government of Kerala, Dr. A. Subha Rao, Minister of Irrigation, Government of Kerala and Sri Veerappa Moily, Minister of Finance, Government of Karnataka etc.,
- Govinda Pai Memorial Govt. College is located in a historically significant area with its roots starting from the Prehistoric period up to the Modern period of Indian National movements shaping the history of the nation in general and South India in particular.

The college emblem consists of an open book, with a ‘pen and a ‘nilavilakku’.
In the centre there is a symbolic student who is active in aram curricular and extracurricular activities driven by the motto
“Inspiring and Innovative’.
Notable Milestones

22 September 1980
On September 22nd, 1980, our institution was formally inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, the esteemed Sri E.K. Nayanar, marking a historic milestone

1980-81
In its early days, our college operated from the 'Vanabhojana Sala' of the revered Sreemad Anandeswara Temple for over a year.

October 1981
The college relocated to a semi-finished building within the compound of the late poet, courtesy the efforts of our sponsoring committee.

October 1990
Our college found its permanent home in Hosabettu village, Manjeshwar, situated on the northern border of Kerala, sprawling across a lush 33-acre campus

1991
Our college underwent a significant upgrade with the introduction of B.A. degree course in Kannada, affiliated to the University of Calicut, expanding our academic offerings.

1993
Introduced the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree course, complementing the existing B.A. Kannada program, and broadening our academic offerings

1996
Initially affiliated to the University of Calicut, our college transitioned to Kannur University in 1996, marking a new chapter in our academic journey

1998
Launched the B.A. in Tourism and Travel Management (TTM) course, providing students with a strong foundation in the tourism industry.

1999
B.Sc. Statistics was started.

2004
M.Com. course was started.

2012
M.Sc. Statistics was started, the only Government College under Kannur University to offer MSc.

2017
The college has been accredited by the NAAC with 'B' grade, reflecting our commitment to quality education and continuous improvement.

2020
The majestic Silver Jubilee Complex, spanning 1400 sq.m., was inaugurated, featuring 40 state-of-the-art classrooms, 5 staff rooms, and 5 HoD rooms, marking a significant milestone in our institution's growth

2020
Starting of M.TTM (Master of Tourism and Travel Management) course, becoming the only Government College in Kerala to offer it.

2024
The college has implemented the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in line with the National Education Policy (NEP)

2025
Marked a significant milestone by enrolling in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the first time, demonstrating our commitment to quality education and excellence.
